Job Description

Purpose of the Job – (Job Summary)
The job holder reports directly to HOD-Risk and Compliance. The job holder will assist the HOD to initiate, implementing and liaise with the respective functional heads, manage the risk and compliance initiatives
Main Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Audit and Operations department and other departments within the company to establish, maintain and continuously improve risk management capabilities and culture.
- Generate regular financial risk reports that monitor the various risk exposures that the company faces such as credit risks, market risks and liquidity risks.
- Proactively identify Compliance and business risk exposures from emerging changes in laws and business trends (including competitors’ activities and economic and political change) and support stakeholders in actions towards mitigating the risk.
- Advising the Company and recommend amendments to the internal policies, procedures and processes, where applicable, based on the identified and assessed gaps associated with the Company’s business activities
- Keep abreast and monitor company’s adherence with existing and new regulatory requirements as well as supporting the company in implementation and monitoring the provisions/ requirements of the risk policy frameworks.
- Keep abreast with new and emerging global and regional regulatory requirements and best practice standards.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews of all risk management output (working papers, reports and presentations) and submit to management for decision making.
- Coordinate risk assessments and promotion of internal controls and Enterprise Risk management practices as well as carrying out risk assessment reviews within the company
- Monitor, and as necessary, coordinate risk and compliance activities through respective departments to ensure the company remain abreast of the status of all insurance related risks & compliance activities.
- Provide relevant information required by external bodies and regulators on compliance matters such as reporting suspicious transactions related to money laundering and the fight against terrorism financing.
- Implementing an effective risk training program as will be developed.
- Other duties as allocated from time to time
Knowledge & Experience
The candidate must demonstrate and possess the following skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Insurance
- Certification in Certified Public Accountant (K);
- A minimum of three to four (3-4) years’ working experience as a Compliance officer in the Insurance industry.
- Well versed in audit electronic working papers and or Ms. Office suite tools for analytics, reporting and presentation
- Proven documentation, reporting and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of Insurance Act and other Financial and Accounting standards
- Demonstrate great communication and analytical skills
- Demonstrate ability to work under minimum supervision
- Open to travel for job reviews anywhere in the country
